We are travelling from Kyoto to Sapporo in December . Can this total journey be achieved just with the JR Pass? If so does it use the Shinkansen trains?
Also is there room for suitcases on the train or do we need to ship them separately?

Hi there,
Yes, you can use the JR Pass to travel the whole way. The route using the JR Pass would look like:
1.) Use the Hikari Shinkansen from Kyoto - Tokyo.
2.) At Tokyo transfer to the Hokkaido Shinkansen bound for Shin-Hakodate.
3.) At Shin-Hakodate transfer to a limited express train bound for Sapporo.
There is room for suitcases in the overhead compartments and at the end of each train car.
Hope this helps,
Daniel
Thank you Daniel
