Hey

I'm looking for some suggestions on completing my itinerary for my trip to Japan next year. My current itinerary looks like this:-

April 25th -April 29th. Tokyo
April 29th - May 2nd Kyoto
May 2nd - May 4th. Hiroshima
May 4th - May 6th. ??????
May 6th - May 8th Fujiyoshida for Fuji Q Highland visit on Monday 7th.

I'm looking for suggestions for a destination during May 4th - 6th. Ideally I'd like somewhere in between Hiroshima and Fujiyoshidaquite that's rural, & traditional, with lots of Samuri history . As you may have noticed from the dates my trip is during Golden Week, so places that may not be as busy as the main tourist areas would be ideal, although I understand that might not be an option during Golden Week.

Finally would I be better off sticking to a 7day pass, or going for the 14 day pass?

Thanks for any help!

Hi there,

Must say that I found it hard to come up with good stops that thick all the boxes. A couple of suggestions come to mind:

1.) Matsumoto, this town in the Japanese Alps is a nice get away with great hiking options. The local castle is one of the best in Japan and matches the Samurai theme. You can also walk the Nakasendo (Kiso Valley) here, which is historically important.

2.) Mie and Toba, these two small towns just south of Nagoya are very pretty with beautiful temples. You can make a side trip from here to the Ueno Ninja Museum.

3.) Shizuoka, this city does not have much history but is a quiet and pleasant town with a good view on Fuji and some of the best green tea in Japan.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
