11 day itinerary

Hello I just had a question on what would be the best way to travel around Japan.

It would be my first time, along with my family, to be visiting Japan and we're trying to get the best price to try to go around Japan with the JR Pass.

From narita airport, we would travel straight to to Himeji and then to Osaka (we would also go to Nara. After Osaka we'd go to Kyoto and stay there for a few days before going to Hakone to see Mt Fuji. After that we would be going to Tokyo for the rest of our stay and then back to Narita airport on the 11th day.

I'm not entirely sure how many days we would be staying in each place, since we are still planning it; however, we were inquiring if it would be possible to do 11 day itinerary with a 7 day JR Pass.

Thank you for your time.

Hello there,

You could do something like:
Day 1.) Arrival - go to Himeji and see the castle. Start of rail pass.
Day 2-3.) Go to Osaka
Day 4.) Day trip to Nara (stay in Osaka).
Day 5-6.) Kyoto
Day 7.) Travel to Hakone stay in Hakone for 1-2 days. - End of rail pass
Day 8.) Hakone/Fuji
Day 9-11.) Tokyo and return to Airport.

Travel from Hakone to Tokyo can be quite cheap, so it would be fine if your JR Pass ends by then. I think a bit more time in Tokyo would be nice too but would not know where to take it from.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Thank you for the reply!

I'm still working on my itinerary with my family and so I'm removing a few things here and there. Also, would a prepaid IC card be beneficial when we're in Osaka, Kyoto and Tokyo as well as a JR Pass for the bullet train? The major bullet train that we would be going on is the Tokaido Shinkansen for Osaka, Kyoto, Hakone and Tokyo; however, what I'm wondering is that there are buses and subways that we will have to take within the three cities to get around the place and JR pass doesn't include buses and some subways and so would getting the IC card be beneficial?

Thank you for answering my questions!
